Today our little class went on a field trip to go ice skating. I was a bit tired from the day before, as the school had held its Jog-a-Thon. I walked over with the kids and did a lap, but mostly helped mark laps for the kids. I also got sunburned. It didn't really hurt too much, but it did make me feel very hot that night.
Because of the sunburn and the fact that I hadn't ice skated except once in high school (17 years or so now - yikes!), I wasn't planning on joining in. But a favorite student of mine came after all and I just knew I would be ending up on the ice.
It wasn't easy. The skates hurt my fat feet. I guess I didn't lace them tight enough and didn't fix it until about halfway through. I spent a lot of time close to the edge so I could be ready to grab on if needed.
I did it though! I got steady enough where I completed a whole lap without having to go to the railing. I held a student's hand for a bit, though it wasn't easy. I didn't fall at all the entire time.
I had to chuckle when we had a demonstration at the end. As the girl twirled around and did jumps, a student from another class asked me if I could do that too. When I laughed and said I couldn't, he said "But you're a teacher!" If only that meant I could do everything....
I hope to go again soon as it will be a good workout. The weight loss journey has been hard for a while but I'm not giving up. One day at a time.
Have you gone ice skating? Any tips?
