Nature Valley National Parks Project & Giveaway

This summer I've had the chance to go to Yellowstone Park two times.  It's been wonderful. We got to walk around a lot (I logged in at about 19,000 steps in one day on my pedometer), see lots of geysers and springs, and even see some of the wildlife.  It's not quite so easy to see in this picture, but that black lump in the background of this picture is a bison.  We made sure to give him plenty of space, though many people were foolish enough to walk on the boardwalk within less than 10 feet of him.  Scary!

I think national parks are a great way to get some exercise in.  You can hike around and enjoy nature's beauty at the same time.  It helped me keep walking throughout the day.

I was especially excited when I got the opportunity to learn more about Nature Valley's National Parks Project.  It was sad to hear my geologist friend tell me about how Yellowstone had changed over the years because of vandalism.  There's also change that has come from factors like pollution.  How can we help?

To help preserve our national parks and ensure their existence for generations to come, join Nature Valley® and Patricia Shultz, internationally best-selling author of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and travel industry leader, to help support the National Parks Project. This year, the National Parks Project will focus on restorative work at Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Biscayne National Parks.

To get involved, simply purchase a box of specially marked Nature Valley Bars and mail in your wrappers to the address below:
National Parks Project
PO Box 450328
El Paso, TX 88545-0328

Nature Valley will not only recycle the wrappers, but will also contribute $0.10 to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) for every wrapper received (up to $600,000 in total). To learn more about the National Parks Project and how you can make a difference, check out PreservetheParks.com today. And don’t forget to visit Nature Valley on Facebook or Nature Valley on Twitter to “Like” or “Follow” the brand. Facebook fans can enter to win a trip, as well as share photos and videos of their summer vacations. All of these sites will also feature updates on the restoration projects, as well as videos and pictures from “National Parks Project” volunteers.
Nature Valley sent me some of their granola bars through MyBlogSpark.  I remember not liking them when I was little, because I thought they were too hard for some reason.  However, I'm glad my tastes have changed over the years.  They were a nice sweet snack that was crunchy but not too hard.  I also got an awesome prize pack with goodies to help me start hiking in my local national parks.  I'm excited that I also get to give away a pack too!

Your prize pack will include:

  • mini backpack
  • military grade compass
  • solar-powered, key chain flash light
  • reusable water bottle
  • copy of Patricia Shultz’s 1,000 Places to See Before You Die: A Traveler’s Life List

Mandatory Entry:
  • Share your most memorable trip to a National Park.

My favorite is backpacking in the Grand Canyon with Carl and my parents. We started at the North Rim and spend the night halfway into the canyon, spent two nights near the Colorado River, then one more night halfway out on the South Rim. MY favorite part was all the rain and my parents having to move their tent. It was pretty funny to see all the water where their tent had been.

My daughter was less than a year old and we took her to Yosemite. Sadly, she didn't want to sleep in the Portacrib, so I ended up awake with her all night. I think it was pretty, but I was so bleary eyed and sleep deprived I couldn't really tell you!
