It may not seem like much, but a minute is pretty cool in my world. I have exercise-induced asthma (my asthma is mild, thank goodness, but still present) and since I still weigh so much at the moment, I take it easy on the jogging front. I found a nice article on how to get started with running, so that's helpful.
We went to the track tonight at BYU. It's nice since you know that if you do 5 laps around the outside lanes, it equals one mile. They also have time clocks so you can get an idea of how fast you are going.
I brought a stopwatch with me. I gave myself 5 minutes of warm-up time, then quickly reset the watch and jogged for a minute. After another 5 minutes of walking, it was time to jog again. I did several sessions like that. In the later ones I did stretch out the walking time to make sure I wasn't pushing myself too hard.
It's little victories like this that keep me going. I'll continue doing the 1 minute jogging splits over the next week. I hope that bumping it up to 2 minutes at a time next week will go just as well.
How long did it take before you could jog for a while - a mile, an hour, etc?
